Erik Iancu is the Founder/Owner of “Erik’s Shimmering Origami” – Math Through Origami
My passion for origami started very early in my life. I was a child when I developed and introduced program to inspire the students’ interest in math through origami at the Greely school in Winnetka. My origami club was the first in the Chicagoland area only for children. An article about me and my passion for origami was published in the Winnetka local newspaper.
I continued to teach over the years. I taught “Origami 101 with Erik Iancu” at libraries and an origami class as part of the “Journey to Japan: Story-by-Story” program, to celebrate Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, a celebration of Japanese culture.
I have original designs and I taught one of them (“Double Jawed Dragon Head”) at the PCOC (Pacific Coast Origami Convention) in Los Angeles 2017 and another one (the “Shimmering Manta Ray”) at the 2016 Convention in New York. My most recent class I taught was at the 2023 PCOC in San Francisco, teaching others how to fold my flower design (“Erik’s Lily”).
My original “Icy Dragon” model won an award at the over-sized folding contest. Also, my model “Blue Morpho Butterfly” was displayed at the Hollywood Contest.
